Dec 28, 2011 – After earning a dramatic season-opening victory over the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day the New York Knicks begin a three-game, West Coast road trip Wednesday, as the Knicks visit the Golden State Warriors (1-1) and the ORACLE Arena (10:30 p.m. ET on MSG). After the contest, the Knicks (1-0) will then play at the Los Angeles Lakers, Thursday (10:30 p.m. on TNT), and at the Sacramento Kings, Saturday (8 p.m. on MSG).

On Wednesday, New York will search for its second consecutive victory to start the season, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by the franchise since 1999. The game will be a reunion with former Knick Mark Jackson, who’s now the Warriors head coach, and could be the debut of newly-acquired guard Jeremy Lin, who was claimed off waivers Monday and will return to the Bay Area where he played last season.

On Thursday, the Knicks will travel to Staples Center to play the Lakers (1-2), who will be playing their fourth game in five days. On Tuesday, behind 26 points from Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles earned a 96-71 victory over the Utah Jazz and snapped a two-game losing streak.

The West Coast swing ends Saturday, when New York visits the always rowdy Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, CA. The Kings (1-1) will be coming off a Thursday match up with the visiting Chicago Bulls. As of Wednesday, guard Marcus Thorton is the squad’s leading scoring with 20.5 points per game.

The Phoenix Suns claim that Grant Hill is their top free agent priority, but according to Newsday, they’ll have to fight off the Knicks’ advances: “On the first day the NBA permitted team executives to contact agents about players, the Knicks prepared to reach out to several free agents, including one who turned them down two years ago. Although Caron Butler and Shawne Williams were discussed Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the situation said the Knicks are also interested in Grant Hill. Hill strongly considered an offer by the Knicks in 2009 but decided to stay with the Suns. The Lakers reportedly also have Hill on the radar. Though 39, Hill showed no signs of slowing down last season as a reliable role player and defensive specialist with the Suns. He made $3.2 million and started 80 games, averaging 13.2 points and 30.1 minutes. Although the free-agent moratorium ended Wednesday, agreements of any kind are prohibited until Dec. 9, when training camps are to open. Suns president Lon Babby told The Arizona Republic that re-signing Hill ‘is an absolute first order of business and top priority.’ But Phoenix is on the decline and Hill’s closest friend on the team, Steve Nash, is in the final year of his contract and may be traded. If the Knicks’ plans for Chris Paul don’t come to fruition, Nash could wind up in New York as a free agent next summer to reunite with Hill, Amar’e Stoudemire and Mike D’Antoni.”

NEW YORK (AP) NBA players are meeting to discuss whether to accept the league’s current proposal to end the lockout.

Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers and Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks are among the players participating in Wednesday’s session with the union leadership.

That current deal calls for players to receive between 49 percent and 51 percent of basketball-related income, though players argue it would be nearly impossible to get above 50.2 percent.

Players have until Wednesday afternoon to take the deal. If not, the next offer is expected to call for rolling back players’ salaries, a 53-47 revenue split in the owners’ favor and essentially a hard salary cap.

No bargaining session has been scheduled before Wednesday’s deadline.

Fans had to form an orderly line to get New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing’s autograph at Lavo on Wednesday night. Ewing was dining with taxi tycoon Andrew Murstein and NASCAR star Brian Vickers at the East 58th Street restaurant for owner Noah Tepperberg’s birthday celebration. Glasses were also raised to toast Ewing, who recently turned 49. But a witness added, “Fans flocked to the table to get autographs but had to wait, as there was only one pen available.”
